*How to manually create a System Restore point?
1.Go to Start > All Programs / Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
2.Select ‘Create a Restore Point’ and then the ‘Next’ button.
3.Describe your System Restore Point in the ‘Restore point description’ box.
4.Select ‘Create’ to create your System Restore point.

*Use of System Restore -
System Restore is useful in most cases of system infection, failure etc. For example, if your computer has been infected by a virus or any other malware, which cannot be removed or cleaned by your security software in Normal or Safe Mode, then restoring your system settings to a date prior to the one when the malware attacked, makes it harmless.

*A System Restore point is created -
1.when a piece of software is installed
2.when Windows Update installs new updates to Windows
3.when the user installs a driver that is not digitally signed by Windows Hardware Quality Labs
4.every 24 hours of computer use (10 hours in Windows ME), or every 24 hours of calendar time, whichever happens first
5.when the computer boots after being off for more than 24 hours
6.when the user requests it.

*How to undo a previously done system restoration?
1.Go to Start > All Programs / Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
2.Select ‘Undo my last restoration’ and then select ‘Next’.
3.Select ‘Next’ again to confirm your Restoration Undo. Your system will restart with the configuration before System Restore was done.

It’s advisable NOT to do a system restore for every problem that you face. First try to solve it by normal means. If all other methods fail, you may proceed for a system restore. This is because restoring your computer also removes the updates and upgrades of your software that were received between the date WHEN you do the system restore and the date to WHICH you restore your computer settings. So, do remember to immediately update your software again after doing a system restore.
