Parental Control Tools

December 26th, 2007 Ashutosh

A parental control software is primarily used to block the access of harmful and unwanted websites on a computer. Such tools usually work under Stealth Mode in the background, and prevent the opening of unwanted websites. Newer operating systems like Windows Vista and Mac OSX Leopard (and Tiger) come inbuilt with their own parental controls, which have some additional features as well (like allotting a fixed time to your child to use the computer). Most security companies are now including the parental control feature in their internet security suites, too.

K9 Web Protection ~ Blue Coat

Available for: Windows Vista/XP/2000

Crawler Parental ~ Crawler Technologies
*****
Available for: Windows XP/2000
Download: home
Note: By default, you will be asked to download Web Security Guard – a safe web surfing tool from Crawler – along with Crawler Parental. I don’t recommend using Web Security Guard (as there are much better options like SiteAdvisor), so please take care to download ONLY Crawler Parental, and NOT Crawler Parental with Web Security Guard.
