Open source download managing and accelerating tool Free Download Manager, a.k.a. FDM, has been upgraded to version 3. This new version carries exactly the same interface as the previous versions, but adds vital browser supports for Firefox 3, Safari, and Chrome, and tweaks the Settings menu among other refinements. FDM is my download manager of choice for a lot of reasons :
- it’s open source
- it’s got no bandwidth sucking ads
- it really accelerates your downloads by squeezing out maximum bandwidth
- it has a simple interface and is extremely easy to use

I had been forced to use Download Accelerator Plus for a long time, as the previous stable version of FDM didn’t support Firefox 3 or Chrome. However, I immediately switched over to FDM again after seeing the new version in FileHippo. In my personal opinion, FDM is the best download manager for Windows and you should really give it a try if you haven’t already. ![]()
