Fortify Your Computer : 2 : Firewall & Safe Web Surfing

April 6th, 2008 Ashutosh Mishra

Fortify Your Computer : 1 covered free antivirus and antispyware applications. This post will analyse free firewalls and safe web surfing tools.

Comodo Firewall Pro
A firewall is probably the most important part of your security suite (? read Firewall FAQ). If you are looking for a free firewall head straight to the Comodo web page and grab the Comodo Firewall Pro. It is undoubtedly the best of all firewalls, whether free and non-free. CFP has an unending number of features and is still extremely light on the system resources. The default configurations are set to optimal values and your computer will run perfectly well even if you do not change anything. The thing that I like most about CFP is that it automatically allows safe applications on your computer to access the net without badgering the head. The Defence+ feature (HIPS) may be a bit irritating at first, but it runs silently once all the rules are created. If you are looking for a strong, light, easy-to-use, highly configurable and free firewall, CFP is out there waiting for you. Home | Download.com | Softpedia

Available For: Windows Vista/XP [Version 2.4, with somewhat less features, is available for Windows 2000 and older versions]

McAfee SiteAdvisor

Staying away from malicious and spammy sites can greatly reduce your computer’s chances of being infected. SiteAdvisor comes in handy for this purpose by warning you of potentially harmful web pages – it glows green for safe sites, yellow for spammy sites and red for harmful or malicious sites. SiteAdvisor isn’t foolproof and has marked some completely safe sites as dangerous (BidVertiser and GAOTD for example), but is definitely a good way of staying clear of most dangers. Home

    @Ajay
    Thank you for the comments but my blog doesn’t resemble MUO in any way – MUO is just awesome with beautiful posts and a much better and technical look as well. And yes I will be adding your blog in Technorati.
