Given that most of us tend to use a dozen plugins, which get updated more often than not, this is probably the most useful of all new features of WordPress 2.9. The problem is, how to batch-upgrade plugins?

The obvious place where you’d be expecting this tool is under “Plugins > Installed” in your dashboard. Somehow, the developers didn’t put it in there. Where you’ll find it instead is under “Tools > Upgrade”. This is the place that used to help you automatically upgrade WordPress to the latest version. Starting with 2.9, you can update third party plugins from here as well.

<img

You can <a

While waiting for 2.9.1 to squash major bugs is a good idea, I couldn’t hold myself back and updated PC Tonic pronto. No visible bugs yet. <img

However I ran into some trouble for the first time while auto-updating WordPress.

Whenever I see the words ‘fatal’ and ‘error’ together, I automatically switch into panic mode. I just immediately logged out and ran to PC Tonic to see if it was running all well. Thankfully, it was. The manual updating process scares me to death, so I decided to give the auto-update another go the next day. Same error. I had had enough.

I ran to the WordPress forums and posted this issue. Fortunately, I got almost immediate help and was able to solve the problem. Here’s a screenshot of my discussion with stvwlf, my saviour.

Thing is, if you do face similar problems, you can try allocating more memory to your growing WordPress installation. Of course, the WordPress forum is always open to any and every query of yours. <img
